Here are my top 7 tips for naming a yoga business.

Tip 1: Include your main expertise

Many yoga teachers have many strings to their bows.  A yoga teacher quite often has gone through several alternative health training certifications.  For example, if you’re a yoga teacher who does a bit of Bowen or reiki, I recommend your name only includes “yoga” (e.g.YourNameYoga.co.uk)

Tip 2: Include your name

I was a business consultant for over 10 years before becoming a full-time yoga teacher.   For mid to large businesses, it would be crazy to call the business after the owner’s name.  However, for a micro business with only one person (e.g. yoga teachers) including your name is a smart idea.   After all, your main brand is “you”.

Tip 3: Avoid Confusion

Make life easy for your prospects.  Potential customers for a yoga business called yoga4u.com shouldn’t be wasting their valuable time pondering if the “you” is a “u, or a “4” is a “four”.

Tip 4: Add Location

If you don’t think you’ll move from where you are, you could consider adding your “town” or “county”.  For example, I could have called my business “Mid Wales Yoga” because, yes you’ve got it, I live in Mid Wales.

Tip 5: Test It On Google Adwords

One of the wondrous features of the find keywords tool is that lists similar search phrases. Using this nifty tool helps you come up with a unique name.

Tip 6: Ask Your Buddies

After you have come up with 10 or more business names, it’s time to bore the pants off your family and friends (and your Facebook friends), by asking them which one they like the best.    In marketing lingo, this would be your “test group”.   It’s not rocket science.  Here’s what you do.

Tip 7: Social Media Name

This is now very important because social media is going to be crucial to the success of your yoga business.

Spend 30 minutes checking out if “your name” has been taken on the main social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram.

For example, if your business name happens to be MidWalesYoga, then consider a strategy to use “MidWalesYogas“ or YogaMidWales as your account name on all the social media sites.  Consistent naming across all your social media will allow your prospects to find you more easily.
